In Memory of Susanna Springer
I was brainstorming this morning with Elizabeth about how to remember Susanna. As we all know, most of the knitting books in the public library were donated by Susanna, often in remembrance of her own mother. I know I will miss seeing the best and most recent knitting books in the stacks with the passing of Susanna. Elizabeth and I would like to suggest that we each contribute a few dollars and purchase a book or two for the Library in Susanna's memory.

Get-Together for Susanna
I just wanted to pass along that Mary and I went to Joseph's Coat this afternoon where there is a small shrine of flowers and notes for Susanna. A woman told us that on Sunday, June 14 at Scotty's Table from 12-5p there will be a gathering in memory of Susanna. Hope to see you there...
Sad, sad news...
Susanna Springer, owner of Joseph's Coat, has died. I received word from Mary that she did not come to work at the shop on Friday. It is presumed that she died in her sleep Thursday night or Friday morning. I think of Susanna as being one of Missoula's most notable characters. She always had an opinion and never hesitated to share it. She was talented beyond measure and wildly knowledgeable about her craft.
There is no news yet regarding a service of any kind, nor has there been an obituary.
Susanna will be missed.

It's finished!!
Jen's knit plastic bag, made of other plastic bags is finally finished! As most of us know, she's been working on this for over a year now. Last night she sewed the final seam, weaved in the very last end, and vowed to never make another one again ;) Here's a pic of her proudly wearing her new bag. Congrats Jen!!

Kniting Bag for Sale
I don't use this knitting bag anymore and I don't think I will use it in the future, so I would like to sell it. $20 or best offer.
* It has 9 lovely interior pockets, just the right size for knitting gear.
* It has elastic on the inside for sliding in lots of needles.
* It has six exterior pockets that each fit two skeins of yarn. The exterior pockets each have a hole that you can slide your yarn through so that you can knit from the pocket. Could be very good for fair isle.
* It also has another three smaller exterior pockets.
* The bag has a flat bottom and four little plastic peg feet so that it sits flat and stable on the floor.
* The bag is big enough to fit an afghan in progress, or several projects and several books.
* It is made of VERY sturdy cordura (but not stiff or rough), and has a supportive, adjustable, padded shoulder strap.
* Despite the vast amount of pockets and holding capacity, the bag isn't super huge.

Marilyn
I wanted to pass along the sad news that Marilyn Gustafson passed away on Friday, May 1st. I didn't know her personally, but I do know that she had great taste in yarn that I am enjoying and that she will be missed.

Stitch N Bitch Update
Knitting on Saturdays at Bernice's has been lovely! The staff have been very welcoming and last week Suzanne from Joseph's Coat stopped by and bought us a round of CAKE! Yum! We are continuing to meet from about 2-6pm.
Maeve is back in action. Well, light action! She looks beautiful and round. Glad to have you back on your feet Maeve!
Whip out the blue yarn. We now know that Jess is cooking a boy! And yes Jess, you can use the name.

Saturday Knitting
We are going ahead with meeting at Bernice's Bakery for the time being. Most of those who gave it a try thought it was worth sticking with. There is a plan to speak with Dauphine's and Le Petite Outre to see if they might be open to us in the future. If anyone has other suggestions, please speak up. The improved communication via our yahoo group makes it less likely that we will miss notifying someone if there is to be a change in venue. Please, if you are not on the yahoo list or know someone who is not and should be, let me know at the gmail address given as the S and B contact. We don't want to leave anyone out who wishes to be notified of changes!

We are going to try Bernice's Bakery on Saturday and see how it goes. If you get this and there are people out there who want to know but aren't online please give them a call. I plan on being there around 2pm.

Benefit Event at Dauphine's
Given that most of us seem to be interested in helping others around the world, and our love for all things crafty I thought I'd share this...
Event To Benefit Guatemalan Co-op
UM students will host a photography exhibit and raffle from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Dauphine's Bakery and Café in Missoula to raise money to establish a women's weaving co-op in northern Guatemala.
The event is free and open to the public and will feature live music. Students will raffle off Guatemalan handicrafts, and their photography will be on sale for $30 to $50.
Students decided to hold the event to benefit the Ixil Mayans of Guatemala after traveling to the area for a two-week seminar about social justice and environmental sustainability. In 2008 the indigenous community of Nebaj in the Ixil region hosted 21 UM students in the seminar, led annually by UM Professor Dan Spencer.
The Guatemalan military devastated the Ixil region during the country's 36-year civil war, and the weaving cooperative is part of an effort to rebuild a sustainable economy in the region. Dauphine's is located at 130 E. Broadway in downtown Missoula. For more information about the event, call Greg Gordon at 406-396-4940 or e-mail fightingbull63@yahoo.com.
