Bitterroot Yarn Shop

As an add-on to Erin's post about the yarn stores in Missoula, there is a new yarn store down the Bitterroot too. (You may already know this since they've been open since June, but I've been down the Bitterroot at least once a week all summer and somehow never noticed this new store!) Our friend Joan who owned Wild West Wools is back in biz with another woman, Judy Burke at the Bitterroot Yarn Shop. They are located next to Subway at the intersection of 93 and the road that goes into Stevi (sorry can't remember the name). I stopped in last night and found that they have a lot of nice yarns as well. There's a large selection of Noro, some Debbie Bliss, lots of cotton and wool, and a good selection of pattern books. Joan has generously offered us a 10% discount again for our knitting group. Yay for us and all our yarn stores!!!!

Wake up and smell the yarn!

Loopy opened Friday and the first responses have been positive. It is a lovely store with a reasonable selection of yarn to choose from. You'll see some of the old standbys such as Gallway and a bit of Lambs Pride. Noro of course but in a larger variety, as well as plenty of Debbie Bliss. Mountain Colors is represented as well.

Reliable sources have also disclosed that a sale for Joseph's Coat closed Friday evening. As of Saturday afternoon there was activity in the store and we are told to expect a re-opening soon.

It is wonderful to see Missoula go from one yarn store to three! They are each unique in their style and there is minimal overlap in product. Happy knitting!

Maeve had her baby!

Nobody has posted yet, so I just thought I'd pop in and say that Maeve had her baby this morning at 2:49. Baby Zoe is a happy, healthy little girl. She weighed in at 8 pounds 7 ounces, and the whole family is resting after their long night. I'm sure they'd love your well-wishes though, so keep them in your thoughts!

In Memory of Susanna Springer

I was brainstorming this morning with Elizabeth about how to remember Susanna. As we all know, most of the knitting books in the public library were donated by Susanna, often in remembrance of her own mother. I know I will miss seeing the best and most recent knitting books in the stacks with the passing of Susanna. Elizabeth and I would like to suggest that we each contribute a few dollars and purchase a book or two for the Library in Susanna's memory.

Get-Together for Susanna

I just wanted to pass along that Mary and I went to Joseph's Coat this afternoon where there is a small shrine of flowers and notes for Susanna. A woman told us that on Sunday, June 14 at Scotty's Table from 12-5p there will be a gathering in memory of Susanna. Hope to see you there...

Sad, sad news...

Susanna Springer, owner of Joseph's Coat, has died. I received word from Mary that she did not come to work at the shop on Friday. It is presumed that she died in her sleep Thursday night or Friday morning. I think of Susanna as being one of Missoula's most notable characters. She always had an opinion and never hesitated to share it. She was talented beyond measure and wildly knowledgeable about her craft.

There is no news yet regarding a service of any kind, nor has there been an obituary.

Susanna will be missed.

It's finished!!

Jen's knit plastic bag, made of other plastic bags is finally finished! As most of us know, she's been working on this for over a year now. Last night she sewed the final seam, weaved in the very last end, and vowed to never make another one again ;) Here's a pic of her proudly wearing her new bag. Congrats Jen!!

Kniting Bag for Sale

I don't use this knitting bag anymore and I don't think I will use it in the future, so I would like to sell it. $20 or best offer.

* It has 9 lovely interior pockets, just the right size for knitting gear.

* It has elastic on the inside for sliding in lots of needles.

* It has six exterior pockets that each fit two skeins of yarn. The exterior pockets each have a hole that you can slide your yarn through so that you can knit from the pocket. Could be very good for fair isle.

* It also has another three smaller exterior pockets.

* The bag has a flat bottom and four little plastic peg feet so that it sits flat and stable on the floor.

* The bag is big enough to fit an afghan in progress, or several projects and several books.

* It is made of VERY sturdy cordura (but not stiff or rough), and has a supportive, adjustable, padded shoulder strap.

* Despite the vast amount of pockets and holding capacity, the bag isn't super huge.

Marilyn

I wanted to pass along the sad news that Marilyn Gustafson passed away on Friday, May 1st. I didn't know her personally, but I do know that she had great taste in yarn that I am enjoying and that she will be missed.
